I get the yearning to shut down one’s blog to use Tumblr instead. Tumblr is incredibly simple, and has a great community aspect. I almost did it myself, until I realized that I could make my blog posts as simple as my Tumblr if I just made some changes in my posting method. Now I use both regularly and happily! It just took some figuring out, and in the end, Tumblr helped me out hugely. I love it, and will never replace my own blog with it.

Thank you for sharing this, Cedric. It was so helpful for me to hear Will’s advice on how to find work (and how to work) in this industry, now. While sobering in some ways, this was actually a great encouragement to me, as well, because, in many ways, I’ve been operating as he suggests, and wondering if I was on the right track. It’s good to hear from veterans that I seem to be heading in the right direction, and just need to keep plugging!

Also, another thought……I recently read that it can be helpful for art professionals to be on tumblr. I haven’t done this yet, but plan to look into it.

I love these designs and am learning from your process. I really like the idea of only 3 body types and the darker mustache. Seems obvious and now that you mention it I have seen this before but didn’t realize it. Thanks so much for sharing.

Very cool ! This reminds me of a toy from the late 60′s, where you held a big bug face like this by a handle, and I believe when you pressed a trigger, a plastic tongue would flip out… can’t remember the manufacturer… maybe Hasbro ?
